The Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) was established by the Government of Goa in December 2016 under the Goa Waste Management Corporation Act, 2016 to address waste management challenges across the state. The corporation functions as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) responsible for scientific waste management, remediation of dump sites, and the development of waste treatment facilities.
Before the formation of GWMC, several initiatives were introduced, including the Monitoring-cum-Working Committee (McWC) in 2011 to coordinate solid waste management efforts and a High Level Task Force (HLTF) in 2012 to guide policy and implementation. These initiatives eventually led to the establishment of GWMC to streamline waste management activities and ensure sustainable environmental practices in Goa. ♻️🌱
